Have you got wallpaper scraps from your latest decoration project? Instead of getting rid of them, why not using them to create beautifully personalised storage boxes?
You don’t need much for this small DIY project:
- Shoe box
- Wallpaper
- White glue
- Wallpaper paste (optional)
- Paint brush
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
Gather all these bits together and you’re ready to go!
The amount of wallpaper you need will depend on the size of your chosen box. Position the box in the centre and draw the outline of it on the back of the wallpaper. In order to achieve a neat finish, you may want to measure the box and cut the paper accordingly. Bear in mind the extra centimeters you need for the folds before cutting anything off, allow approximately 4 extra centimeters for the folds over the edge, so you can paste it properly.
Spread glue on the bottom of the box and stick it to the wallpaper as per your mark, this will make it more manageable. Make sure you cover all the surface of the box with the glue to avoid any air bubbles when it dries. If the paper gets any glue stain, wipe it off with a damp cloth, as soon as you can and it should disappear.
The next step is to make four cuts on the corners as per the picture below:
What we’ve done next is to tidy the edges, ready to fold into position as per the image below – a picture is worth a thousand words, isn’t it?
Paste the long side first, fold the flap and apply glue to give it a neat and clean finish. Next, straighten and glue the short sides and folded edges inside of the box.
Repeat the process around each corner, and on the lead and you’re done! We had some extra wallpaper, so we’ve also cut a piece to sit on the base of the box.
On this small DIY project we’ve used Satoni Black and Gold wallpaper, part of Our Eastern Alchemy pattern book collection.
